In the rural areas of the southern mountains of Guangxi, a large-scale sacrificial event called "Xiudafan" is held every year between the ninth and tenth months of the lunar calendar. This event lasts for four days and nights and is aimed at atoning for sins, pacifying wandering spirits, and praying for favorable weather, national stability, and the well-being of the people. The film documents various rituals during the Xiudafan, including "Summoning the Troops," "Climbing the Mountain of Knives," and "Walking Through the Fire Pit." The dances and dramatic performances featured in the event are a fusion of Buddhist, Taoist, shamanistic, Zhuang drama, and Nuo opera traditions, resulting in an extraordinary artistic value that is highly cherished by the local community.
